Release Shame From Your Body With Tantric Shaking
By Dianne Shepherd.
For anyone wanting to expand their sexual pleasure and intimacy, effective ways of dealing with shame are essential.
Shame is something every human has experienced and when left unprocessed it can accumulate like a toxin in the body and mind.
Shame is a deeply rooted emotion that can have a massive impact on our vitality, joy and self expression; especially our sensual and sexual expression.
It can create a heaviness or lethargy in the body and lodge in the mind as a myriad of limiting beliefs about our self worth and safety.
Shame is an unprocessed emotion that gets lodged in our system from various experiences of physical, emotional and even spiritual trauma often stemming from our childhood and/or teenage years.
When we enter the arena of sexual pleasure, shame can really amplify, putting the brakes on our pleasure and stopping us in our tracks.
When a person is experiencing shame it can feel like an emotional and physical shut down of the system. We can feel frozen, unable to make a move.
As a Tantra practitioner, coach and teacher I’ve seen shame show up in myself and my clients often.
I feel it’s the main culprit that blocks our sensual and sexual selves and keeps us trapped in negative thought spirals.
Shame is what fuels the resistance so many women experience when they want to explore holistic sexuality practices like the Taoist Jade Egg practice.
The Jade Egg practice is one of the core practices I teach. The best way to describe it is that it’s like Yoga for the female erotic core. It involves using a crystal (usually jade) carved in the shape of an egg to do inner massage and toning techniques that help release stored emotions, tension ,trauma, and return the vagina to her natural vibrant, juicy, orgasmic state.
It’s one of the most curative and empowering practices on the planet for the female body and yet, getting started on this journey always comes with some level of significant resistance.
Often, women will get excited about the Jade Egg practice, purchase an egg and then are shocked about the wall of resistance that arises when it comes time to actually roll out the mat to do a practice.
And what makes matters worse, they can even have shame that they are experiencing shame which deepens the resistance.
(Btw, it happened to me too! My first Jade Egg sat in the draw for about 3 months! When I started to release shame from my body, everything shifted).
That wall of resistance I’ve come to release is always some variation of shame.
So, if we want to expand our sensual and sexual pleasure, we must have effective ways to handle the gremlin of shame as it arises.
There are many amazing experts doing in-depth research on shame.
Thanks to the internet we have access to a wealth of wisdom and information.
If you feel as though you’re experiencing chronic shame I recommend you explore the work of Gabor Mate, Brene Brown, Peter Levine and Bessel van der Kolk.
I’ve found their work to be incredibly supportive.
What I want to offer you here is a simple somatic practice that I use and share with my clients that can over time help you release shame and restore your body’s natural balance, create more safety in your system and increase your capacity to experience more pleasure.
When shame is stuck in the body it can feel heavy, dense and leave us with feelings of numbness, not being enough and that something is inherently wrong with us.
Unless we release it from the body we can start to take shame on as our identity it can feel like we actually are shameful; full of shame.
The reason for that is that it gets stored in the cells of our fascia, the connective tissue that runs through every muscle, joint and organ of the body.
When we feel shame, we embody shame.
One of the most effective ways that I’ve found to release shame from the fascia is shaking.
You can literally shake shame out of your cells.
I call this Tantric Shaking because I learned it through my studies in Tantra and just as it sounds, you simply shake your body.
It’s so simple and yet when done on a regular basis, it’s incredibly effective.
Here’s how to do Tantric Shaking:
- Cue up a fun playlist of music that’s easy to move to. It’s best if it’s percussion heavy with no lyrics.
- Hit play and step your feet a little wider than shoulder distant apart, feet parallel (that gives freedom to your pelvic floor)
- Shake your body! Allow your legs to shake, feel your pelvic floor bouncing like a trampoline, shake your arms, your shoulders, your breasts, your organs. You get the idea.
- Do this for at least 10-15 minutes. And do it daily for best results!
